What the app does, and what it deliberately does not
Worth knowing before you rely on it, and short enough to read in a minute.
What it does
- Reminds you to drink, around your waking hours, and only when you are behind.
- Logs a drink in one tap from the app, a notification, a widget, Control Center, Siri or your Apple Watch.
- Suggests a daily goal from published guidance, and lets you overrule it.
- Keeps a history: every day, the goal it was judged against, your week and your streak — the last 30 days in the app, and every month of it with PRO.
- Syncs with Apple Health, both ways, if you ask it to.
- Grows a cat farm or a forest as the goal days add up.
What it does not do
- It does not diagnose anything, treat anything or give medical advice.
- It does not tell you to drink when you are ill, pregnant, on medication or under a fluid restriction — those goals belong to your doctor.
- It does not measure anything about your body. It only records what you tell it, plus what Apple Health passes on.
- It does not send your drinks anywhere. There is no account and no server to send them to.
- It does not advertise to you or track you across apps.
- It does not punish you. There is no dying pet, no lost collection, no red streak counter shouting at you.
The goal is a starting point, not a prescription
The suggested goal follows EFSA's adequate intake for water from drinks and adjusts for activity, heat, pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight. It is built for healthy adults aged 14 and up. If you have heart, kidney or liver disease, low blood sodium, take diuretics, or have been told to limit fluids, the number your doctor gives you is the one to use.
FAQ
- Is Sippy a medical device?
- No. It is a reminder and a record. It makes no treatment or weight-loss claims.
- Is it suitable for children?
- It is rated for ages 14 and up, because the hydration guidance it is built on is for adults.
- Does it work without an internet connection?
- Yes, entirely. Nothing in the app needs the network.
