Set your daily water goal
Sippy starts with a suggested goal rather than a round number, because what a person needs depends on their body, how much they move and how hot it is where they live.
Keep the suggestion
Open Settings and look at “Daily goal”. The pickers above the goal are what the suggestion is made of: sex, activity level, pregnancy or breastfeeding, whether you live somewhere hot, and your weight if you want to give it. Change any of them and the goal moves with them.
Or set your own
- Open Settings and find “Daily goal”.
- Tap the − and + beside the goal. It moves in 50 ml steps, from 800 ml to 5,000 ml.
- From then on the goal is yours and stops following the suggestion.
- Changed your mind? A button underneath — “Use suggested” — offers the worked-out number back, and tapping it hands the goal to Sippy again.
Changing the goal does not rewrite the past
Every drink remembers the goal that was in force when it was logged, so a day you finished last month is still judged against the goal you had that day. Today is the exception: today's drinks follow today's goal, so lowering the goal in the evening cannot turn a half-finished day into a goal day at midnight.
FAQ
- Is 2 litres a day right for everyone?
- No, and Sippy does not assume it. The suggestion starts from EFSA's adequate intake for water from drinks — about 1.6 L for women and 2.0 L for men — and moves from there. Needs vary a lot between people (Yamada et al., Science 2022).
- Why does Sippy warn me above 4 litres?
- Because more than 4 L a day is more than almost anyone needs, and drinking far more than the kidneys can clear is not harmless. Sippy says so once, then lets you set what you like.
- Do I have to give my weight?
- No. It is optional, and leaving it out only means the suggestion is based on the other factors. When you do give it, it moves the goal by at most 400 ml either way.
Sippy is a reminder and a record of what you drink, not medical advice. Its suggested goal follows published guidance for healthy adults, and the app is for ages 14 and up. If you have heart, kidney or liver disease, low blood sodium, take diuretics, or have been told to limit fluids, ask your doctor before setting a goal.
Drink water, grow cute cats
Sippy nudges you only when you are behind, logs a glass in one tap from the Lock Screen, and grows a cat farm — or a tiny forest — as the goal days add up. Free, no ads, and nothing leaves your iPhone.
