How water streaks work
Two different numbers are being counted, and knowing which is which saves a lot of confusion.
Goal days and streak days
- A goal day is a day you reached the full goal. Goal days earn gifts, decorations and new companions.
- A streak day only needs half the goal. That is what keeps the counter going.
Why half
Because a streak that breaks the moment you fall short is a streak people abandon. Duolingo found that lowering the bar for keeping a streak kept more learners going, and showing someone a broken streak demotivates them (Silverman & Barasch, 2023). Sippy would rather you came back tomorrow than quit tonight.
What breaks it
A finished day under half the goal, with no freeze in reserve and no rest day taken. Today can never break it — the day is not over.
Where to see it
The Stats screen shows the current streak, your best ever, the last seven days as bars, your weekly average and how it compares with the week before.
FAQ
- Does a streak day count toward a new cat?
- Only if it was a full goal day. Half-goal days keep the streak but do not earn a newborn.
- I was travelling and lost my streak. Can I get it back?
- Not retroactively — but freezes and rest days exist to cover planned gaps, and your best streak is kept as a record.
- Does the streak reset at midnight?
- At your day's cut-off, which is midnight unless you go to bed after it.
Sippy is a reminder and a record of what you drink, not medical advice. Its suggested goal follows published guidance for healthy adults, and the app is for ages 14 and up. If you have heart, kidney or liver disease, low blood sodium, take diuretics, or have been told to limit fluids, ask your doctor before setting a goal.
Drink water, grow cute cats
Sippy nudges you only when you are behind, logs a glass in one tap from the Lock Screen, and grows a cat farm — or a tiny forest — as the goal days add up. Free, no ads, and nothing leaves your iPhone.
