Water reminders are not showing up
Reminders are delivered by iOS, not by Sippy, so when one does not arrive the cause is usually one of a handful of settings. Work down this list; the first two cover most cases.
Check these in order
- Open Sippy's Settings. If notifications are switched off for the app, a note appears there with a button straight to the iPhone's notification settings. Turn Allow Notifications on, and leave Lock Screen, Notification Centre and Banners ticked.
- In iPhone Settings › Notifications › Sippy, check that Scheduled Summary is off for Sippy. A summarised notification arrives hours late, which is no use for a drink reminder.
- Check Focus. In iPhone Settings › Focus, add Sippy to the allowed apps of any Focus you use during the day, or its reminders are held back silently.
- In Sippy's Settings, make sure “Water reminders” is on, and that your wake and bed times match the hours you are actually awake.
- Check whether the goal is already met. Once you reach the goal, that day's reminders stop on purpose.
- Check whether today is a rest day you took from the weekly challenge — rest days are quiet by design.
- Open the app once. Reminders are planned four days ahead and replanned every time the app opens or you log a drink; if the app has not been opened for a long time, the plan can have run out.
Reminders you will not get, by design
- In the two hours before your bedtime.
- Within 45 minutes of a drink you just logged.
- Less than an hour after another reminder.
- When you are on pace — a pace reminder only goes out when you are at least 200 ml behind.
- After the goal is reached.
- After a long absence: if you do not open the app, your companion checks in once after four days, once more at twelve, and then stops rather than nagging an empty room.
They arrive, but silently
That is the phone, not the app: a notification makes no sound in silent mode, in a Focus that allows it quietly, or when the volume is down. Sippy does not use alarm-style reminders — a glass of water is not worth overriding silent mode for.
FAQ
- Why did I get fewer reminders than usual today?
- Because you were keeping up. Pace reminders are only scheduled when you are behind the even pace for the hour, so a good day is a quiet day.
- Do reminders work if I never open the app?
- For a while. Sippy schedules four days ahead and refreshes that plan each time the app opens or you log from a widget or notification, so logging from the Lock Screen keeps it topped up.
- Will Low Power Mode stop them?
- It can delay background work in general. The reminders themselves are scheduled with the system in advance, so they still fire, but it is worth opening the app now and then while Low Power Mode is on.
Sippy is a reminder and a record of what you drink, not medical advice. Its suggested goal follows published guidance for healthy adults, and the app is for ages 14 and up. If you have heart, kidney or liver disease, low blood sodium, take diuretics, or have been told to limit fluids, ask your doctor before setting a goal.
Drink water, grow cute cats
Sippy nudges you only when you are behind, logs a glass in one tap from the Lock Screen, and grows a cat farm — or a tiny forest — as the goal days add up. Free, no ads, and nothing leaves your iPhone.
